Local climate change lobby outside HSBC
Members of the Churches Together in Harborough Justice and Peace Group are to be joined by local school students for a two-hour "lobby" outside the Harborough branch of HSBC next Saturday (13th April).
They are taking part in the nation-wide "Big Shift" campaign organised by Christian Aid. It calls for a "big shift" away from the use of fossil fuels that contribute to climate change which itself affects natural disasters and poorer communities.
Money is key to climate change, say the organisers,
and big banks could be part of the solution. Currently HSBC is said to invest billions in energy projects and continues to fund coal power in countries vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
The lobby, which will be peaceful and silent, will distribute leaflets to interested passers-by, and a letter will be given to the Bank's duty manager for the attention of the Chief Executive Officer. It will take place between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon.
